Treatments

Six specialist massage treatments — clinically tailored, not spa-style

Every session begins with an assessment so the treatment matches the actual problem. Pressure, technique and pacing are adjusted to your tolerance and your goals — never one-size-fits-all.

Sports massage at Zen Den Worthing — treatment for runners, cyclists, and gym athletes
Sports & Performance

Sports Massage

Best for: runners, cyclists, gym athletes, triathletes, weekend warriors

Targeted work for active bodies — pre-event, post-event, or as part of regular training maintenance. I work the muscles your sport actually loads: legs and glutes for runners, quads and thoracic spine for cyclists, lower back and shoulders for lifters.

£60 / £80 60 / 90 min

Treats: ITB syndrome, calf strains, achilles issues, shin splints.

Deep tissue massage at Zen Den Worthing — treatment for chronic muscular tension and stubborn knots
Pain Relief

Deep Tissue Massage

Best for: chronic muscular tension, stubborn knots, deeper postural pain

Used when the layer I need to reach is genuinely deep, or when a muscle won't release with lighter work. Sustained pressure, slower pace, specific not generic. Soreness for a day is normal; bruising isn't.

£60 / £80 60 / 90 min

Treats: chronic lower back pain, deep neck tension, persistent shoulder knots.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage at Zen Den Worthing — post-surgical recovery and lymphoedema treatment
Specialist

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Best for: post-surgery swelling, post-cosmetic-surgery recovery (lipo, BBL, tummy tuck), lymphoedema

Gentle rhythmic pumping, almost no pressure, no oil. Stimulates lymph flow to reduce post-surgical oedema, manage chronic lymphoedema, and support recovery after orthopaedic or cosmetic procedures.

£25 / £50 30 / 60 min

Treats: post-op swelling, lipoedema, lymphoedema, post-mastectomy oedema, chronic venous insufficiency.

Myofascial release massage at Zen Den Worthing — gentle treatment for chronic stiffness and fascial restrictions
Mobility & Posture

Myofascial Release

Best for: fascial restrictions, scar tissue, chronic stiffness, fibromyalgia, ME

Slow, firm, never painful — if it hurts, I'm doing it wrong. Calms the nervous system, which is often the real reason a body stays tense. Excellent for clients who can't tolerate deep tissue work.

£60 / £80 60 / 90 min

Treats: post-surgical scar tissue, fibromyalgia muscular pain, chronic stiffness, ME-related tension.

Swedish relaxation massage at Zen Den Worthing — treatment for stress reduction and sleep improvement
Stress & Sleep

Swedish Massage

Best for: stress reduction, sleep improvement, anxiety-related tension

The human-touch massage. Switch off, forget the world, present with the smell, the light, the music. Worried it'll be too gentle? Easily adjusted — firmer pressure within the technique to reach the nervous-system relax point.

£60 / £80 60 / 90 min

Treats: stress-related muscular tension, anxiety-driven shoulder tension, sleep disruption.

Specialist clinical treatment

Post-surgery & lymphatic drainage massage in Worthing

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is rarely offered by massage therapists in Worthing. I provide MLD for post-cosmetic-surgery recovery (liposuction, tummy tuck, breast reduction), post-orthopaedic surgery oedema, cancer-related lymphoedema (including post-mastectomy), lipoedema, and chronic venous insufficiency. Treatments are gentle, slow, and rhythmic — no oil, no deep pressure, no pain. The aim is to stimulate lymph flow and reduce swelling, not to "work" the muscles.

Before your first session, I'll need clearance from whoever's overseeing your recovery — your surgeon, GP, consultant, oncology nurse, or physiotherapist. The same applies if you're a cancer patient managing lymphoedema.

★★★★★
Jan is amazing at what he does! I went to see Jan for my surgery recovery as I had some swelling — I had a lymphatic drainage massage with him. I spoke with Jan first and he was brilliant, he explained everything about the massage and the benefits. I had 4 sessions with Jan and the results are showing, I can feel the effects! I can't recommend Jan enough, he's so knowledgeable and caring.

★★★★★
Jan is AMAZING! I've had back issues for years and 2 slipped discs previously, so I'm hyper-aware of my back and when it's getting bad. Jan never fails to reset my back and get me into a good state each time. In our last session he was able to correctly identify where the main posture issue was coming from — the way I'm sitting, and which side I sometimes cross my legs on. I highly recommend anyone considering seeing him to do so. The setting is also top tier — perfect temperature, relaxing music, perfectly cleaned and highly organised.

★★★★★
Jan has been brilliant — asking questions to find out more before getting into the issue. It was more than a massage; he used joint manipulation to really get into the problem. I can't say I enjoyed all of it, but it has been massively beneficial to my physical ability. Happy to recommend.

Frequently asked

Common questions about massage in Worthing

These are the questions people most often ask before booking. If yours isn't covered, message me directly on WhatsApp or call — I'm happy to talk through what's right for you.

How much does a sports massage cost in Worthing?

Sports massage costs £60 for 60 minutes or £80 for 90 minutes. The same pricing applies to deep tissue, remedial, Swedish, and myofascial release. A shorter 30-minute remedial session is available at £30 for short follow-up appointments. Manual Lymphatic Drainage is priced separately at £25 for 30 min or £50 for 60 min. No hidden charges — what you book is what you pay. See the full pricing page for memberships and packages.

Where exactly is Zen Den Worthing located?

The clinic is at 20 Ainsdale Close, Worthing BN13 2QX, in the Durrington area between Durrington Health Centre and Durrington Recreation Ground. It's about 10 minutes from Worthing town centre by car, with free on-street parking, an on-site EV charger, and bus routes 5, 9, 16 and 700 stopping nearby on Salvington Road.

Is Jan FHT-registered and qualified?

Yes. Jan holds Level 3, 4 and 5 diplomas in massage therapy from Brighton Holistics — the highest sports-massage qualification recognised by the Federation of Holistic Therapists. He's a full FHT member, fully insured, and DBS-checked. Certificates are displayed in the treatment room and available for inspection. Read more about Jan's background.

Do you offer manual lymphatic drainage after surgery in Worthing?

Yes. MLD is one of the specialist treatments at Zen Den Worthing — rarely offered in the Worthing area. I provide post-surgical lymphatic drainage for liposuction, tummy tuck, breast reduction, post-orthopaedic surgery oedema, post-mastectomy lymphoedema, lipoedema, and chronic venous insufficiency.

I'll always confirm clearance from whoever's overseeing your recovery — surgeon, GP, consultant, oncology nurse, or physiotherapist — and the safe post-op timing window before your first session.

What's the difference between sports massage and deep tissue massage?

Sports massage is built around the demands of a specific sport — pre-event preparation, post-event recovery, and injury prevention. It often includes assisted stretching.

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper muscle layers using sustained pressure to release chronic tension and stubborn knots. Both use firm pressure, but the therapeutic goals are different. If you're not sure which fits, I'll confirm at the start of your appointment.

Can a massage help sciatica?

Massage can help with sciatica when the underlying cause is muscular — usually piriformis tension or tight glutes compressing the sciatic nerve. Remedial or deep tissue work targeting the glutes, piriformis, and lower back can reduce that compression. If your sciatica is caused by a disc issue, I'll refer you back to your GP or osteopath. The assessment at your first appointment will clarify which category you're in. Read more about deep tissue massage.

How quickly can I get an appointment at Zen Den Worthing?

It depends on availability, but the online booking system shows 2 months ahead — so it's easy to check what's open and plan in advance. Opening hours are Monday–Saturday, 8am–8pm. For urgent same-day slots, WhatsApp or call 07947 502512.

Do you treat runners, cyclists, and triathletes?

Yes — these are some of the most common client groups. I tailor the session to the sport's demands: legs and glutes for runners, quads and thoracic spine for cyclists, full-body recovery work for triathletes. Common conditions treated include ITB syndrome, achilles tendinopathy, calf strains, and shin splints. See the sports massage page for more detail.

How is myofascial release different from deep tissue?

Deep tissue uses sustained, firm pressure to release muscle knots. Myofascial release is slower and softer — it works the fascial layer (the connective tissue around muscles) and calms the nervous system. It should never hurt. Myofascial release is the right choice for fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, post-surgical scar tissue, and clients who can't tolerate deep tissue work.

What should I wear to my massage appointment?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For most treatments you'll undress to your comfort level (underwear is fine) and clean linens and towels are provided. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is done fully clothed — please wear loose, comfortable clothing for that treatment. Myofascial release can also be done over clothing if you prefer — just let me know when booking.

How often should I have a massage for chronic pain?

For chronic pain or active injury recovery, weekly sessions for the first 3–4 weeks usually produce the fastest progress, then fortnightly as symptoms improve. For maintenance and stress management, monthly is typically enough. I'll suggest a realistic plan in your first consultation — never more sessions than you actually need.

Is massage therapy suitable for fibromyalgia or ME/CFS?

Yes — with the right technique. Deep tissue and firm pressure work are usually contraindicated, but myofascial release and Swedish at adjusted pressure can be genuinely helpful for nervous-system calming and muscular pain. Sessions are paced carefully and we start gently, increasing only if your body tolerates it.

Do you offer evening and weekend appointments in Worthing?

Yes. The clinic is open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm. Evening and Saturday slots are popular and fill fast — booking 1–2 weeks ahead is recommended for those times.

Is there parking and EV charging at the clinic?

Yes — free on-street parking on Ainsdale Close and surrounding roads, and an on-site EV charger available free of charge to clients during their treatment. The nearest car park is Tesco Durrington, a 5-minute walk away.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Cancellations with more than 48 hours' notice are free. Within 48 hours, a 50% charge may apply. Within 24 hours, a 100% charge may apply. I'm flexible if it's a genuine emergency — just let me know as early as possible.
